Picture
Södermalm
Nytorget
is a lovely little square buzzing with life, surrounded by small restaurants and bars
all worth trying. Urban Deli is the most popular one. Right in the heart of Sofo,
you’ll find this eco-friendly restaurant/bar/food market/juicebar.

http://www.urbandeli.org/hem/

Picture

Vampire lounge
 – Östgötagatan 41
Spicylicious, Vampires Passion, Bloody Mess. Whether you like your drinks muddled, frozen, sour, creamy or icecreamy, you’ll find it all here, in a cellar with crazy furniture and “magical” atmosphere in the dark style of vampires http://www.vampirelounge.se/?page_id=6

Picture

Kho Pangan
 - Skånegatan 57
This restaurant & bar does not only serve good food and yummy drinks, but is also a
must-see. Decorated with palm trees, bamboo huts, neon lights, tuk tuks and all you can
think of, entering this place feels like entering Thailand itself.
http://www.kohphangan.se/

Picture

The Thai boat
- Norra Hammarbyhamnen, Kajplats 303
Hop on this boat to enjoy sun chairs, a beach, a cool bar and nice DJs playing.
Or sit inside
the bamboo huts and get some great thai food. A really cool place to
hang out on a sunny day
or evening. http://www.thaiboat.se/

Picture

Marie Laveau
– Hornsgatan 66
Just a few footsteps from the metro Mariatorget, you’ll find this nice bar/club/restaurant
that feels a bit like a café serving alcohol (which is strange if your are Swedish). Come here
to dance on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (the night club is closed during summer
and will open again 24th of august).

http://marielaveau.se/

Picture

Hermans -
Fjällgatan 23 B
Ecological, vegetarian restaurant with a delicious buffet and the most amazing view (overlooking
Gamla Stan and Djurgården). If you show your student ID, two persons can eat for the price of one.
During summertime they serve you food directly from their bbq in the garden. A true gem!

Picture

Morfar Ginko
 - Swedenborgsgatan 13
This is a small but nice place, easy to get to and free entrance. Somewhere
you go if you’re in the area and just want to talk while having a glass.
http://www.morfarginko.se/bilder

Big Ben - Folkungagatan 97
English-style pub with free entrance. Check events for stand-up nights (sometimes in English) or bands playing. www.bigben.nu

Hellströms - Fatbursgatan 1
A five minute walk from the metro station Medborgarplatsen. Not a fancy place but at cheap one. The clientele is a bit young, but it can be worth it. Especially on Fridays when you get to eat as much as you want from the nacho buffe for only 20 SEK when buying something from the bar.

Debaser
There are three different Debasers in Stockholm, and they are located at Medborgarplatsen, Slussen and Humlegården. The latter is only open summertime, and is an outdoor bar. The other two are more like clubs, where great concerts are often held.

Strand – Hornstull Strand
Just like Debaser, Strand offers a great combination of club nights and concerts. It’s pretty cheap and they are willing to play all sorts of different music, depending on the theme of the night. And best of all: they’ve got table tennis!

Götgatan.
If you walk along Götgatan you’ll find an enormous range of bars and pubs. The closer you are to Slussen and Götgatsbacken (the “hill” between Slussen and Medborgarplatsen), the more expensive the beer will be. This is where the sofo-fashion people hang out.

Boule och berså – Erstagatan 26
During summer time this is the perfect place if you’re too restless to just hang out in a bar. Boule and Berså is located by the canal under Danvikstullsbron, and is a cozy outdoor bar/restaurant where you can play boule.

Underbara Bar – Östgötagatan 33
This converted cinema is a nightclub Fridays and Wednesdays, one of few at Söder. Maybe not the best music, but it might be worth a try anyway.

Norrmalm

Berns – Näckströmsgatan 8
Behind the walls of this amazingly beautiful building there’s a stunning hotel, exclusive restaurants, a lot of bars, a pretty fancy club and a concert stage. Even though it might be both expensive and difficult to get in during night time, Berns is definitely worth a visit. It’s without a doubt the most beautiful place to party in in Stockholm.

Picture

Cafe Opera
 – Karl XII’s torg
Just like the name will tell you, this is a part of the opera. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays,
it becomes a big, fancy and expensive night club, usually a center for famous people in Sweden. http://www.cafeopera.se/page.asp?pageID=1278

Soft Kök & Bar – Malmskillnadsgatan 40
Situated just a heartbeat away from Stureplan, center of Stockholm’s most popular clubs, this bar is perfect for a pre-drink or two. Especially since the alcohol is extremely cheap in comparison to all the other bars in the neighborhood. And the best part is, if you’re having fun, you can stay there the whole evening and enjoy the bar changing into a club.
http://www.softbar.se/
Picture

ICE bar – Vasaplan 4
If you’re not yet fed up with the cold in Sweden, you should give the ICE bar a try.
All year round it’s
-5 degrees inside, and everything is made of ice. A cool experience,
in a double sense…

Picture

Kulturhuset
Kulturhuset is, just like you might expect, a house of culture and home of a theatre,
library, workshop, gallery and a lot more. However, most of us would rather go
straight to the top floor, grab a cup of coffe and enjoy looking at the busy city life from above.
http://en.kulturhuset.stockholm.se/About-Kulturhuset/

Kungsholmen

Dovas – Sankt Eriksgatan 53
Cheap, English pub worth mentioning if you’re just looking for a bar to hang out in.

Nivå 22 – Fridhemsgatan 17
This is so tacky but so cheap. It’s impossible to find cheaper alcohol in the city. This is where we went back in the days when we were too young to afford anything else and know any better.

Sommar! – Fleminggatan 2
With seven dance-floors and seven music styles Sommar! is always a safe card. We strongly recommend you to be there early; during happy hour you’ll get in for free and the drinks are almost cheap. Later on, however, the line will be extremely long and the guards can be pretty picky.

Cybertown – St Eriksgatan 56
Cybertown is a laser game arena, and the game you play here is pretty easy: shoot as much as you can for 20 minutes. It might sound trite and childish, and maybe it is. But it’s also extremely fun! And relatively cheap! Perfect combination.

Flippin’ burgers - Kungsholms strand 157
The owner, Jon Widegren, travelled around US for six weeks, trying to find the best hamburger in the world. Now people are queuing outside of his restaurant from three in the afternoon just to be able to get a table.

Östermalm

Stureplan
…is a square on Östermalm, and it’s in this area you’ll find Stockholm’s most famous night life. Spy Bar, Hell’s Kitchen, Solidaritet, Sturecompagniet, Laroy, Magenta and White Room are some of the places offering inconsistent and unpredictable age-limits, expensive cocktails, drunken celebrities and a lot of Swedish House Mafia. If you want to party all night long; this is where you should go!

Gamla stan

The Liffey – Stora Nygatan 40
A nice irish pub to hang, have a beer, listen to a singer/songwriter or watch sports. Very close to the metro, which makes it even more convenient! http://www.theliffey.se/?code=en

Klein’s – Kornhamstorg 51
If you’ve had some beers in Gamla Stan and suddenly feel like clubbing, Klein’s is, geographically, your best option. It’s tiny but they play party music and are open until three at night.

Vasastan

Rörstrandsgatan
A calm street in the middle of Vasastan, and therefore a natural hotspot for nice cafés and restaurants. Close to both Karlbergs Station and Metro station St Eriksplan, which makes this a perfect meeting spot for people travelling with “pendeltåg” as as well as “tunnelbana”.

Cafe 60 – Sveavägen 60
As soon as you see the MOUNTAIN of cinnamon buns, pies, cakes and cookies piled up, you’ll understand why we would recommend this. Another plus is the opening hours, since the nightly conversations never have to stop. Open till midnight Sunday-Thursday and till 02 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Nice alternative to a bar, if you just feel like talking and have a good time.

Retro – Sveavägen 120
Come here to watch the most popular sports events and buy cheap alcohol (in fact almost for free during the happy hour!).

Olssons skor – Odengatan 41
Ok. So… how do you explain a former shoe store (?) with an aquarium, a stripping pole and a dance floor, showing movies and serving free popcorn in the bar? Well, maybe just like that. Random but nice!

Treat – Roslgasgatan 2
Treat really is a treat for those of us who don’t mind the worn out furniture, the bad music and the way too young clientele, as long as you can buy a couple of beers and a lot of fries for less than 100 SEK.

Musslan – Dalagatan 46
This must be Stockholm’s smallest club. Different kinds of music, both dj’s and live music, affordable beer. Always free entrance!

Further away and other kinds of adventures

Winterviken & Vintervikens trädgård

Alfred Nobel used this building (Winterviken) as a factory for his new invention… dynamite. How can it still be there? you might wonder. Unfortunately we cannot answer that. But come here to have a fika, take a walk along the water and try to figure it out. It’s not far from either Liljeholmen, Aspudden or Örnsberg (all metro stations on the red line) if you are just prepared to walk a bit. http://www.winterviken.se/conference-banqueting-stockholm

In the same area you can also find a nice garden café (Vintervikens trädgård) where singer/songwriters come to play on tuesdays. http://www.vinterviken.com/scen.html

There are also cliffs worth climbing (“Badberg”, close to Örnsberg on the map above) to have a bbq, a glass of wine and watch the sunset over the shimmering water.
Picture
Picture
Ulriksdal & Café Sjöstugan

See the castle, take a stroll in the big, lovely garden, pick some flowers or harvest ecological greeds. Have a “fika” in the garden café, castle café or bring your own picnic. However, the best cinnamon or cardamom buns on earth, you’ll find a bit further away (but not far with a bike) at Café Sjöstugan. Yum!!

Hammarbybacken.
If you’ve been skiing a lot, Hammarbybacken (“Hammarby’s ski slope”) isn’t really anything for you. But for those of you who haven’t skied a lot or nothing at all; this is the place for you! A perfect way to spend a winter day in Stockholm.

Grinda
Take a boat out in the archipelago to this island. Grinda is a popular destination for Stockholmer’s who want to go on a day trip,  swim, sunbathe and have a good time. http://www.archipelagofoundation.se/?id=5928&cid=3960

Parks
During summer time Stockholm offers a lot of nice parks to hang out in, which aren’t hard for you to find by looking at your maps... But: Långholmen and Tantolunden can offer more than that! Come here to have a picnic and take a swim, they often have concerts and theatre plays outdoors. Vasaparken is the perfect park if you’d rather play football.

Palmyra – Årstavägen 57
…is known as the best place in Stockholm to go to if you love kebab. And it really is awesome. Big portions and relatively cheap. They also have a kebab buffe, which is definitely worth a try!
Picture

Uppsala

… is a student city only 45 minutes away by train, but still very different from Stockholm. This is a small city to Stockholmers, yet it is the 4th largest in Sweden. Uppsala is a beautiful sight for the eye with its big cathedral, the pink castle on top of the highest hill and the river splitting  the city in two. Bridges, cobblestone streets and a mixture of small wooden houses and big, spectacular university buildings, sets the atmosphere in this historical town. Many students means, of course, great partying during the semester. Make sure to apply for a guest card in order to visit the nations (pubs and clubs only for students).

Djursholm
This is like Östermalm outside of the city. A fancy and expensive area for living, but the houses are usually old and beautiful, situated next to the water or in beautiful gardens. Some of you might like to just walk around, look at the big villas and find a café to have something to eat before you go back.

Heron City – a shopping and entertainment center. Cinema with enormous screens, a big food court and an O’Learys with both bowling, arcades, snooker and sports bar. A perfect way to spend a rainy day!

Cosmonova – Frescativägen 40
At Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet you’ll find Cosmonova, which is a kind of a cinema. The screen covers the roof and the 3D effects cannot be compared to what you see in a regular cinema.  Cosmonova does not show the same movies that SF does, but they show educative movies exploring history and nature. This is actually a lot more fun that it sounds!
Picture
Skinnarviksberget and Monteliusvägen
Picture
View from Skinnarviksberget
Take the metro to Zinkensdamm and walk up the hill in the same direction as the water (north). It’s hard to explain exactly where to go, but it really doesn’t really, since this area is absolutely stunning. Just try to get the best view, and there you’ll hopefully find Monteliusvägen, a walk that will also lead you to Skinnarviksberget. Skinnarviksberget is enormously popular for bbqs, picnics or sunbathing during summer time. Watch the sun go down over Stockholm. From this spot, you can see it all! http://visitstockholm.com/en/To-Do/Attractions/monteliusv%C3%A4gen/989
Food stores

Liedl
A very cheap food store with varying range and quality.

Ica/ica maxi
When it comes to price, ICA is something in between of Coop and Willys. ICA though, is everywhere. And has got everything you need. Probably the most popular food chain.

Coop
You’ll find plenty of small Coop’s in the city centre. A bit more expensive than ICA, unless you are a member and get a refund on your shopping. They are known to be more eco-friendly, though.

Kajsa Warg
Eco, eco, eco and luxurious with everything from locally grown greeds to handmade Italian pasta. This is a place for wealthy, environmentally aware gastronomes, living in Vasastan or on Södermalm. So naturally, that’s where you’ll find this store.

Willys
Hanna can personally recommend this store for you. They market all the bigger brands but also their own and much cheaper ones

Working out

Friskis & svettis
The concept says everything about Friskis. Everyone working for this “company” are more or less volunteering (simply because they like health care), yet this seem like a professional chain. The atmosphere is friendly, they offer gym, dance classes, yoga, aerobics and a lot more. Highly recommended! You’ll find a number of them in most Swedish cities.
www.friskissvettis.se

Swimming pools
Eriksdalsbadet is Swedens national arena for swimming. But not only can can you swim in the pools for exercise swimming, they also have a big adventure pool with slides and an outdoor pool.
Another one is called Centralbadet and is situated on Drottninggatan, right in the middle of the city. Not very big, quite expensive but quite nice.
